Amb Andaura railway station in Una district has received a major infrastructure upgrade after Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated its ₹24-crore redevelopment project on Friday under the Amrit Bharat Railway Station Scheme.

The inauguration was held as part of a larger railway programme organised in Jalandhar, where the Prime Minister dedicated several railway projects to the nation and laid the foundation stones for new infrastructure initiatives across the region.

The redeveloped Amb Andaura station now features improved passenger facilities, better accessibility, escalators, upgraded waiting halls, cafeterias, beautification works and improved traffic management systems. Located around 32 km from Una railway station on the Nangal Dam-Mukerian broad gauge route, the station plays an important role for local residents as well as pilgrims travelling to the Mata Chintpurni shrine.

Foundation Stone Laid for 27-Km Talwara-Mukerian Rail Section

During the same programme, Prime Minister Modi also virtually laid the foundation stone for the 27-km Talwara-Mukerian railway section. The project will complete the final missing link on the Nangal Dam-Mukerian broad gauge route.

At present, the railway line is operational from Nangal Dam to Kartoli in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur district via Una. Work is currently progressing on the Kartoli-Talwara section.

Once completed, the rail corridor will connect the Delhi-Chandigarh-Nangal Dam-Una-Mukerian route with the Jalandhar-Pathankot railway line at Mukerian. The new connectivity is expected to strengthen passenger and freight movement in the region.

The railway link is also considered strategically important as it could provide an alternate rail route for the Indian armed forces.

Mukesh Agnihotri Seeks Space for Mata Chintpurni Idol

Himachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri attended the virtual inauguration ceremony at Amb Andaura railway station and unveiled the plaques commemorating the Prime Minister’s inauguration.

Addressing the gathering, Agnihotri thanked the Prime Minister for the redevelopment of the railway station and requested the Railways to allocate a prominent space within the station premises for installing an idol of Mata Chintpurni.

He pointed out that Amb Andaura station is located in the Chintpurni Assembly constituency and serves a large number of pilgrims visiting the famous shrine.

Deputy CM Seeks Full Central Funding for Himachal Railway Projects

Agnihotri also urged the Centre to bear the entire cost of ongoing and proposed railway projects in Himachal Pradesh. He said the state has limited financial resources and cannot independently bear the cost of large-scale railway infrastructure projects.

The Deputy Chief Minister further sought Central funding for the proposed Bilaspur-Beri-Leh railway line, highlighting its strategic importance for the region and the country.

The redevelopment of Amb Andaura railway station and the proposed Talwara-Mukerian rail link are expected to improve connectivity, boost passenger movement and strengthen the broader railway network connecting Himachal Pradesh with Punjab and other parts of northern India.
