Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has completed his self-enumeration for Census 2027 through the official online portal and urged residents across the state to actively participate in the nationwide exercise before the June 15 deadline.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has completed his self-enumeration for Census 2027 through the official online portal and urged residents across the state to actively participate in the nationwide exercise before the June 15 deadline.
Leading by example, the Chief Minister completed the process on Tuesday and encouraged citizens to take part in what he described as a crucial initiative for the state’s future development and governance.
During the session, Himachal Pradesh Director of Census Operations, Deep Shikha Sharma, along with senior officials, briefed the Chief Minister on the key features and procedures of the digital self-enumeration system introduced for Census 2027.
Speaking on the importance of the exercise, Sukhu said that the census serves as the foundation of democratic governance and development planning. According to him, the data collected helps governments understand population trends, family structures, housing conditions, available resources, and access to public services.
“The census plays a vital role in shaping welfare schemes and development policies that directly impact citizens,” the Chief Minister said while emphasizing the need for accurate and complete information.
Census 2027 in Himachal Pradesh to Be Conducted in Two Phases
Officials informed that Census 2027 in Himachal Pradesh will be conducted in two phases.
The first phase, known as the House Listing and Housing Census, is scheduled to take place from June 16 to July 15, 2026. During this period, details related to houses, buildings, and household facilities will be collected.
The second phase will focus on population enumeration, where demographic and socio-economic information of residents will be recorded.
In a major step toward modernization, the entire census exercise will be conducted digitally. Enumerators and supervisors will use mobile devices to collect and upload data, reducing paperwork and improving efficiency.
Special Schedule for Snow-Bound Areas
Given Himachal Pradesh’s unique geographical conditions, population enumeration in snow-bound regions will be carried out separately from September 11 to September 30, 2026.
For the rest of the state, population enumeration is scheduled between February 9 and February 28, 2027.
CM Appeals for Public Cooperation
Chief Minister Sukhu appealed to all residents to cooperate fully with census officials and provide accurate information during the survey process.
He emphasized that reliable census data is essential for effective governance, infrastructure planning, welfare initiatives, and resource allocation. Accurate participation by citizens, he said, will help ensure that future government policies and development programs are based on real and updated ground-level information.
With Census 2027 set to become one of India’s largest digital data collection exercises, the Himachal Pradesh government is encouraging every eligible resident to complete self-enumeration and contribute to the success of this nationally significant initiative.
