Donald Trump Signs Historic US-Iran Deal at Versailles: Macron Calls It a Major Step Towards Peace and Lower Energy Prices
In a major diplomatic breakthrough, US President Donald Trump signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the United States and Iran during a high-profile dinner meeting at the Palace of Versailles in France. French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed the agreement, calling it an “important step in the right direction” that could help achieve long-term peace and stabilize global energy markets.

Sharing the development on X, Macron said the agreement would pave the way for reopening the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most crucial oil shipping routes.
“President Trump signed tonight at Versailles the agreement between Iran and the United States. This agreement paves the way for lasting peace and allows the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. It is an important step in the right direction for our compatriots that will soon enable a decrease in energy prices,” Macron stated.
The White House also confirmed the signing and released a video showing Trump signing the document alongside Macron during the official dinner at Versailles.
According to reports, the agreement was signed as part of a 14-point framework aimed at reducing tensions between Washington and Tehran. While Trump signed the document in France, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian signed it separately through a virtual process, bringing the memorandum into immediate effect.
The agreement is expected to begin a 60-day diplomatic process toward negotiating a broader and more comprehensive deal between the two nations. A key objective of the memorandum is the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, ensuring safe movement of international commercial vessels and reducing disruptions in global oil supplies.
The framework also addresses Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile and outlines a mechanism for future discussions under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). In return, the agreement proposes phased economic relief and sanctions easing based on Iran’s compliance with the terms.
According to Iranian state media, the memorandum was finalized after extensive diplomatic consultations involving Oman and several other countries. The deal also includes commitments to halt military operations in certain regional areas, release frozen Iranian assets, and support a US-backed economic development program for Iran valued at at least USD 300 billion.
The US-Iran understanding is being viewed as one of the most significant diplomatic developments in recent years. Global leaders and energy markets will now closely watch whether both sides successfully implement the agreement and move toward a permanent peace framework within the proposed 60-day timeline.
