Kangra Police has released a detailed traffic and parking plan for IPL matches at Dharamsala’s HPCA Stadium on May 11, 14, 17 and 26. Heavy vehicle movement, parking zones and shuttle services have been regulated to ensure smooth traffic flow.

With thousands of cricket fans expected to arrive in Dharamsala for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) matches, Kangra Police has rolled out a detailed traffic and crowd management plan to avoid congestion and maintain public safety around the HPCA Stadium.

The special traffic arrangements will remain in force during IPL fixtures scheduled on May 11, 14, 17 and 26 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamsala.

Superintendent of Police Ashok Ratan, using powers under Section 112(2) of the Himachal Pradesh Police Act, 2007, has authorised police officers deployed on IPL duty to regulate traffic movement and issue directions to the public across the Dharamsala Municipal Corporation area.

Special Traffic Measures Around HPCA Stadium

According to officials, temporary barricades will be installed at key points near the stadium, parking areas, bus stops and nearby hotels to control traffic and pedestrian movement. Police may also implement one-way traffic systems on match days to reduce pressure on major roads.

SP Ashok Ratan said the traffic advisory has been prepared keeping public convenience and safety in mind.

He appealed to residents and cricket fans to cooperate with the administration, follow designated routes and use the approved parking areas during the IPL matches.

Heavy Vehicle Movement Restricted

To prevent traffic jams in Dharamsala and McLeodganj, the movement of heavy vehicles — except essential service vehicles and route buses — will remain restricted six hours before the start of each IPL match. The restriction will continue until two hours after the match ends.

Police have also diverted Volvo buses operating between Dharamsala and Gaggal through the Sakoh route. These buses will not be allowed to use the Dari route during match hours.

In another major move, routine buses will not be permitted to pick up or drop passengers between Red Cross Chowk and the Education Board bus stop to ease congestion near the stadium zone.

Shuttle Services and Parking Arrangements

To help spectators reach the stadium conveniently, temporary shuttle bus stops have been created at Trends Mall Dharamsala and near the exit gate of the Police Ground.

Kangra Police has also designated separate parking areas for vehicles arriving from Chamunda, Kangra, Gaggal and McLeodganj.

Special parking arrangements have been made for VIP guests, media personnel and vehicles carrying stadium access passes. Media vehicles will be parked at the Government Senior Secondary School (Boys) ground, while VIP-I category vehicles will use Sai Ground parking.

Emergency Services to Operate Without Restrictions

Police officials confirmed that ambulances and emergency service vehicles will be allowed unrestricted movement on all roads during the IPL matches.

Authorities have also warned that idle parking on roads within the restricted zones will not be allowed on match days, and strict action may be taken against violators.

With Dharamsala set to host high-voltage IPL action, the administration expects heavy footfall and has urged visitors to plan their travel in advance and follow official traffic advisories for a smooth experience.
