Keylong, Kaza, Sumdo, Udaipur, Tindi, Sissu, and both portals report sunny skies and open roads, ensuring smooth travel for residents and visitors. However, some areas still face road closures due to previous adverse weather, particularly on the route from Lossar to Gramphu. The Lahaul and Spiti police advise travelers to stay informed about the latest weather and road conditions, especially in mountainous regions where the weather can change rapidly. They emphasize caution and recommend avoiding travel during extreme conditions like snowfall and landslides. Overall, while the weather is currently cooperative, it’s crucial to stay updated on any changes to ensure a safe journey through the beautiful yet unpredictable terrain of Himachal Pradesh.

The weather is looking nice today, says the Meteorological Centre in Shimla. Shimla has a clear sky, and there’s nothing notable weather-wise in the catchment areas of Himachal Pradesh, including Satluj, Beas, and Ranjit Nagar. Overall, the state is experiencing calm weather.

Over the past 24 hours, the weather across the state has been dry. The lower hills, including Kangra, Hamirpur, Una, Bilaspur, and parts of Mandi, Solan, and Sirmaur, stayed dry and will remain the same tomorrow. The middle hills, like parts of Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur, and Mandi, saw some rain. High hills, such as Kinnaur, Lahaul, Spiti, and parts of Chamba and Kullu, also experienced dry weather, similar to the lower and middle hills, and this will continue tomorrow. There hasn’t been much change in the minimum temperatures, but maximum temperatures have risen slightly over the last 24 hours. The minimum temperature was significantly below normal, while the maximum temperature was below normal. The lowest temperature recorded today was 3.0°C at Keylong, and the highest was 41.2°C at Neri. A new Western cyclonic disturbance is expected to impact the Western Himalayan Region starting May 17, 2024.

According to the Ministry of Earth Science and the Meteorological Department of India, no significant snowfall or rainfall was observed anywhere in Himachal Pradesh today. However, this is expected to change as a Western disturbance is likely to impact the western Himalayas starting May 17, 2024.

According to the Ministry of Earth Science and the Meteorological Department in Shimla, the current weather in major cities of Himachal Pradesh varies significantly. Keylong is the coolest, with a temperature of 14.9°C and a high 99% chance of rain. Kufri is slightly warmer at 19.4°C with a 22% chance of rain. Shimla experiences a mild 23.8°C with a 14% chance of rain. Chamba and Sundernagar are warmer, with Chamba at 31.7°C and a 33% chance of rain, while Sundernagar records 34.5°C with a 19% chance of rain. Kangra tops the temperature chart at 34.1°C, but it has the lowest chance of rain among these cities, at just 1%.

As of May 14, 2024, at 8:00 AM, the Lahaul and Spiti police have provided an update on the weather and road conditions in the region. Most areas, including Keylong, Kaza, Sumdo, Udaipur, Tindi, Sissu, and both portals, report clear weather and open roads, making travel smooth and convenient. However, there are some road closures and advisories due to adverse weather, particularly from Lossar to Gramphu.

 

Travelers should stay informed about these conditions, as the mountainous terrain can change quickly, leading to closures and advisories. The road from Darccha to Deepal Tal is currently open but requires caution. The police advise against traveling during extreme weather conditions, such as snowfall and landslides, especially on the Darcha to Shinkula route. They urge travelers to prioritize safety and check for the latest updates on weather and road conditions before starting their journey to ensure a safe trip through Lahaul and Spiti.
