Today’s weather in Shimla, the summer capital, is a mix of light rain in some areas with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds ranging from 30 to 40 kmph. There’s even a chance of hail in isolated spots, prompting authorities to issue an orange alert. In other parts of Himachal Pradesh like the catchment areas of Satluj, Beas, and Ranjit Nagar, similar conditions are expected, with the added possibility of moderate precipitation. Orange alerts are in place here too. In Lahaul and Spiti districts, a yellow warning is issued, while an orange alert covers districts Sirmaour, Kullu, Mandi, Kangra, Solan, and Chamba. The rest of the state may see light rainfall at isolated spots.

In the past day, most of the state experienced dry weather, but there were some exceptions. In lower hill areas like Kangra, Hamirpur, Una, Bilaspur, and parts of Mandi, Solan, and Sirmour, there were scattered rains. Tomorrow, this pattern is expected to continue. In the middle hill regions, including parts of Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur, and Mandi, rain was more widespread. Meanwhile, higher areas like Kinnaur, Lahaul, and Spiti, along with some parts of Chamba and Kullu, saw rain and snow in isolated places, with similar conditions anticipated tomorrow. Temperatures remained relatively stable, with Keylong recording the lowest at 5.1°C and Una hitting the highest at 38.2°C.

Today, Himachal Pradesh saw a good amount of rainfall across various places, with Una receiving the highest at 18.8 mm and Manali getting the lowest at 1.0 mm. Other areas also experienced rainfall, such as Saini AWS, HMO Kasol, and Una Rampur AWS, each recording significant amounts. Overall, while there was no significant snowfall, the region received much-needed rain, contributing to its water resources.

In Himachal Pradesh, Keylong boasts the coolest temperature among major cities, currently at 15.8°C, with a high chance of rain at 99%. Kufri follows with slightly warmer weather at 14.4°C and a 78% chance of precipitation. Shimla sees a rise in temperature to 19.8°C with a 59% chance of rain. Chamba and Sundernagar experience warmer conditions, with Chamba at 14.3°C and a 100% chance of rain, while Sundernagar records 31.5°C with a 39% chance of rain. Kangra tops the temperature chart at 30.3°C but has the lowest chance of rain among the cities at just 1%.

As of May 11, 2024, Lahaul and Spiti police provided a comprehensive weather and road status report, crucial for travelers in the region. Most stations reported clear weather, ensuring smooth travel along roads like Keylong, Kaza, Sumdo, and others. However, some areas face road closures due to adverse weather, like Darcha to Sarchu and Lossar to Gramphu routes, emphasizing the need for caution.

A travel advisory has been issued for the DS-Darcha-Shinkula road, with traffic regulations in place. Only certain vehicles are allowed on the Darcha-Shinkula-Zanskar road from 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM, with alternating traffic on different days. Travelers must adhere to safety guidelines, especially during rainfall and snowfall, and avoid unnecessary stops.

 

Travelers are warned of the risks involved, including avalanches and rockfalls, and advised to seek shelter during snowfall. Hotel and homestay owners are urged to inform guests accordingly. In emergencies, contact the District Disaster Management Authority or the toll-free number provided.
