Qatar PM Meets US Envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, Discusses US-Iran Talks and Regional Security
Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, held high-level discussions on Tuesday with US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Senior Adviser Jared Kushner, focusing on the ongoing US-Iran negotiations and efforts to strengthen regional stability through diplomacy.
Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, held high-level discussions on Tuesday with US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Senior Adviser Jared Kushner, focusing on the ongoing US-Iran negotiations and efforts to strengthen regional stability through diplomacy.
The meeting comes at a crucial time as diplomatic efforts continue to address key geopolitical challenges in the Middle East, including the situation in Lebanon and broader security concerns across the region.
According to Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the discussions centered on the progress of talks between the United States and Iran under the framework of the 14-point Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Both sides reviewed recent developments and explored ways to advance dialogue aimed at ensuring long-term peace and stability.
Qatar reaffirmed its commitment to supporting mediation initiatives and facilitating diplomatic engagement among regional and international stakeholders.
Officials emphasized that dialogue remains the preferred path toward achieving sustainable solutions that can safeguard regional interests, protect civilian populations, and contribute to international peace and security.
Focus on Lebanon Ceasefire
The talks also addressed the latest developments in Lebanon, particularly the ongoing ceasefire efforts.
Participants highlighted the importance of preserving Lebanon’s sovereignty, unity, and stability while strengthening the existing ceasefire framework. Diplomats stressed that maintaining calm in Lebanon remains essential for broader regional security objectives.
Qatar has played an increasingly significant role in diplomatic mediation efforts in recent years, positioning itself as a key facilitator in negotiations involving multiple international actors.
US Appreciates Qatar’s Mediation Efforts
During the meeting, the US delegation expressed appreciation for Qatar’s mediation role and its collaboration with Pakistan in facilitating dialogue channels.
Washington reiterated its commitment to continuing negotiations and supporting diplomatic initiatives designed to achieve a comprehensive agreement that addresses regional concerns and promotes long-term stability.
The discussions underscore the growing importance of diplomatic engagement in addressing complex geopolitical issues amid evolving regional dynamics.
Iran Maintains Firm Position on Nuclear Rights
Meanwhile, Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf reiterated Tehran’s stance that its nuclear rights and strategic red lines remain non-negotiable.
Ghalibaf stated that Iran would not move forward with the next phase of negotiations until key commitments outlined in the 14-point Memorandum of Understanding are fulfilled, including provisions linked to Lebanon and implementation mechanisms.
He also warned that Tehran is prepared for escalation if agreements reached during negotiations are not honored.
Iranian officials confirmed that a joint committee comprising representatives from Iran and the United States has been established to monitor implementation measures related to Lebanon and other provisions under the memorandum.
According to Iranian authorities, discussions will continue until several critical clauses of the agreement are fully implemented, with Lebanon remaining a central focus in the ongoing diplomatic process.
