The weather in Himachal Pradesh is expected to take a dramatic turn as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of an intense spell of rainfall beginning June 17. A yellow weather alert has been issued for several districts, including Shimla, Kullu, Mandi, Kangra, and Chamba, where heavy rainfall may occur at isolated locations.

According to the State Meteorological Centre, the rainy spell is likely to continue across the hill state until June 22. Authorities have also issued orange and yellow alerts for multiple districts on June 18, indicating the possibility of stronger rainfall activity in the coming days.

Rainfall Activity Increases Across Himachal Pradesh

During the last 24 hours, several regions of Himachal received light to moderate rainfall. Kufri recorded the highest rainfall of 32 mm, followed by Sundernagar with 17.9 mm, Shimla with 12.6 mm, Kangra with 10.9 mm, Solan with 4.6 mm, Nahan with 3.8 mm, and Dharamsala with 2.4 mm of rainfall.

The fresh showers have brought relief from the heat, causing a noticeable drop of around 2°C to 4°C in minimum temperatures at many places.

Temperature Remains Near Normal Despite Rain Alert

The Meteorological Department stated that no major change is expected in maximum or minimum temperatures over the next few days. The minimum temperature across the state ranged between 5°C and 24°C, while maximum temperatures remained close to normal and varied from 19°C to 36°C.

Among major locations, Una recorded the highest maximum temperature at 36.4°C, while Kukumseri in Lahaul and Spiti district recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 5.3°C.

Residents Advised to Stay Alert

With continuous rainfall expected until June 22, residents and tourists visiting Himachal Pradesh are advised to stay updated with the latest weather advisories, especially in hilly and landslide-prone areas. Travelers should plan their journeys carefully and keep track of local weather updates to avoid inconvenience.
