Three, Including 19-Year-Old Woman, Arrested in Shimla for Heroin Possession
Shimla, May 11:
In a continued crackdown on drug trafficking in Shimla district, police have seized heroin (commonly known as chitta) in two separate incidents. In the first case, three individuals—including a 19-year-old woman—were arrested after police recovered 10.65 grams of heroin from their possession. In the second case, a young man was found with a smaller quantity and released on notice.
During a Saturday night checkpoint operation at Tara Devi by Shimla’s Special Cell, police intercepted a car carrying two young men and a woman. Upon search, authorities found 10.65 grams of heroin. All three—residents of Shimla—were arrested on the spot. The accused have been identified as Mohammad Umar (21), a resident of Eidgah Colony, Lakkar Bazar; Arushi Sharma (19), from Balen village, Chhanog post office; and Raman Thakur (19), from Dudhli. The vehicle used by the suspects was also impounded. A case has been registered at Baluganj Police Station under Sections 21 and 29 of the NDPS Act. The trio will be produced in court for police remand.
In the second incident, police recovered 3.040 grams of heroin during a routine patrol near Batis Colony on the Sanjauli Bypass. The accused, identified as Sandeep (21) from Anni in Kullu district, was booked under the NDPS Act at Dhalli Police Station and released on notice as per legal provisions.
Police have reiterated their commitment to intensifying action against narcotics in the region.
