Shimla, April 10 – The weather took a sudden and dramatic turn in the Himachal Pradesh capital on Thursday evening, as a hailstorm and thunderstorm swept through Shimla, bringing much-needed relief from the rising temperatures of recent days.

Throughout the day, Shimla experienced warmer-than-usual conditions, with the mercury climbing to a maximum of 25°C. However, the evening brought a welcome change. Strong winds, light rainfall, and a brief but intense hailstorm cooled down the city, leaving the atmosphere pleasant and refreshing for residents and tourists alike.

The Meteorological Center in Shimla has since issued an orange alert, warning of continued thunderstorms, strong winds, hailstorms, and potential snowfall in higher-altitude areas over the next 24 hours. The advisory remains in effect until April 12, cautioning residents across several districts to remain prepared for sudden weather shifts.

Elsewhere in the state, Una recorded the highest temperature at 38.2°C, making it the hottest spot in Himachal this season so far. Similarly, Bilaspur and Kangra districts saw temperatures soar above 35°C, contributing to an overall rise in heat across the plains.

The persistent dry spell over the past few days had led to a sharp increase in both daytime and nighttime temperatures. On average, the minimum temperature in the state was reported to be 3.1°C above normal on Thursday, indicating warmer nights as well.

Here’s a quick look at minimum temperatures recorded in major towns on Thursday:

  • Shimla: 16°C
