Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh has ridiculed Mandi MP Kangana Ranaut’s recent allegations and accused her of spreading false and misleading information. Singh demanded that the actress-turned-politician either produce evidence in support of her claim that state government money is being given to Congress leader Sonia Gandhi or face a defamation suit.

“Kangana should either prove her baseless claims or be ready for legal action. Her comments are nothing more than an attempt to tarnish Sonia Gandhi’s reputation,” Singh said while interacting with the media at the state Congress headquarters. Taking a personal dig at the MP, he said, “Kangana’s statements seem to have gone mentally bankrupt. Her repeated inflammatory comments may be a result of her limited education.”

The controversy erupted after Kangana alleged that the financial aid given by the central government to Himachal Pradesh was being diverted to Sonia Gandhi. Singh categorically rejected the allegations, saying that the funds from the Centre are allocated under the strict guidelines of the Line of Credit (LOC). “There is no scope for embezzlement and I challenge Kangana to prove the misuse of even a single rupee,” Singh said.

Singh mocked Kangana’s current visit to the state and said that she had come to Himachal Pradesh to “mourn” after one of her films was allegedly banned by the censor board. He remarked that Kangana has a history of making unverified claims on sensitive issues and reminded her that she has been reprimanded by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) high command for similar statements earlier.

With his rebuttal, Singh has further fuelled the political controversy and made it clear that the Congress party will not hesitate to take legal action against what he called a well-planned defamatory campaign against Sonia Gandhi.
