Vikramaditya Singh has officially launched the Congress campaign for the upcoming Mandi Municipal Corporation elections, setting the tone for an intense political battle focused on development, accountability, and urban transformation.

Addressing media representatives and party workers, the Himachal Pradesh Public Works and Urban Development Minister said the Congress party is entering the elections with a “clear vision, strong leadership, and a people-first agenda.” His remarks signaled the party’s attempt to position itself as a development-driven alternative ahead of the civic polls.

Congress Focuses on Grassroots Leadership

Vikramaditya Singh stated that the Congress leadership had carefully chosen candidates who maintain a strong connection with the public and have a proven record of social commitment. According to him, all 14 Congress candidates were selected after detailed discussions and feedback from local residents.

He added that the party has already prepared a long-term roadmap for the future growth of Mandi city, focusing on infrastructure, cleanliness, tourism, and modern urban facilities.

BJP Targeted Over Civic Governance

Taking a direct dig at the BJP, Singh questioned the party’s decision to deny tickets to several sitting councillors, including the incumbent Mayor and Deputy Mayor.

“If their five-year tenure was truly successful, why were they replaced?” he asked, claiming that the BJP’s own decisions reflected growing public dissatisfaction over governance and civic management in the Municipal Corporation.

Despite the criticism, Singh maintained that Congress intends to fight the elections on issues related to development, transparency, and public accountability rather than political rhetoric.

₹180 Crore Development Projects Announced for Mandi

In a major announcement during the campaign launch, the Urban Development Minister revealed that projects worth nearly ₹180 crore have already been sanctioned for Mandi Municipal Corporation with support from both the state and central governments.

He also disclosed that during a recent meeting in New Delhi with Union Urban Development authorities, Himachal Pradesh secured nearly ₹1,200 crore under the Urban Challenge Fund for strengthening urban infrastructure across the state.

Key Projects Planned for Mandi City

The Congress leader highlighted several major projects proposed for Mandi, including:

  • Redevelopment and modernization of Indra Market
  • Sewerage and drainage upgrades across key city areas
  • Beautification and riverfront development near the historic Panchvaktra Temple
  • Green redevelopment of the Mandi Bus Stand under the PPP model
  • Construction of a world-class indoor sports complex for youth

According to Singh, the proposed sports infrastructure aims to encourage young people toward sports activities and help combat the growing issue of drug abuse.

Congress Banking on Development Narrative

With civic elections approaching, Congress appears to be building its campaign around infrastructure expansion, urban modernization, and local accountability. Political observers believe the development-focused messaging could become a major talking point in the upcoming electoral contest in Mandi.

The Mandi Municipal Corporation elections are expected to witness a closely watched battle between Congress and BJP, with urban development and governance likely to remain central issues for voters.
