In a major push towards urban transformation, the Government of Himachal Pradesh has secured financial support of 1,200 crore from the Centre to accelerate key infrastructure and city development projects across the state.
State Public Works and Urban Development Minister Vikramaditya Singh confirmed the development on Sunday, highlighting that the funds will be directed towards critical initiatives such as Shimla’s core area decongestion, advanced hydraulic parking systems, underground utility ducting, and the development of planned townships like Kangra Aerocity.
The announcement came after Singh attended a high-level meeting in New Delhi chaired by Union Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. The discussions primarily revolved around the Centre’s Urban Challenge Fund, a scheme aimed at modernizing urban infrastructure in growing states.
According to Singh, the Centre has asked Himachal Pradesh to prioritize projects worth ₹1,100 to ₹1,200 crore in the first phase. He added that once the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) are submitted, approvals will be granted without delay—indicating a fast-track execution plan.
Interestingly, Himachal Pradesh has already proposed urban projects worth ₹5,400 crore under the Urban Challenge Fund, signaling the state’s ambitious roadmap for future-ready cities. These projects are expected to address long-standing issues like traffic congestion, parking shortages, and unplanned urban expansion—especially in tourist-heavy regions like Shimla.
The move is seen as a significant step toward sustainable urban growth in the hill state, where balancing development with environmental sensitivity remains a constant challenge.
With timely execution, these projects could not only improve urban living standards but also boost tourism and economic activity in Himachal Pradesh.
