Regional tensions in the Middle East intensified after Iran announced that it had launched drone strikes targeting US military assets in Bahrain. The operation came in response to what Tehran described as recent American attacks on civilian infrastructure inside Iran, which reportedly killed three people and injured several others.

According to Iran’s state broadcaster Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), the Iranian Army confirmed that the strikes were carried out as part of the 11th phase of “Operation Lightning.” The military said it used Arash drones to target locations where US military helicopters and P-8 reconnaissance aircraft were stationed at the Sakhir base in Bahrain.

In its official statement, the Iranian Army said the operation was launched in retaliation for what it called attacks on urban infrastructure and innocent civilians. Iranian officials also warned that they would continue responding to any future military actions by the United States.

The statement further cautioned that any miscalculation regarding Iran’s military capabilities or the determination of its armed forces, including the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), would come at a significant cost.

Civilian Casualties Reported After US Strikes in Iran

The latest escalation follows a fresh wave of US military strikes across Iran, marking the sixth consecutive night of operations, according to Iranian state media.

IRIB reported that several locations in Hormozgan Province were hit during the attacks. Airstrikes reportedly damaged two important bridges near Kohourestan village and the Shor River in Bandar Khamir County, disrupting key transport routes.

Officials from the Hormozgan University of Medical Sciences said one person was killed and eight others were injured in an attack on the Tappe Allah Akbar neighbourhood in Bandar Abbas. Most of the injured reportedly suffered blast-related injuries, while another sustained fractures.

Separately, Iranian authorities said the Bandar Abbas railway junction station, an important passenger and freight transport hub connected to Shahid Rajaee Port, was also targeted. Two people were reported injured in that incident.

The Hormozgan Governorate stated that strikes on the Kohorestan and Giriveh bridges resulted in two additional deaths and four injuries, describing both bridges as critical transportation links in the province.

US Says Strikes Were Meant to Reduce Iran’s Military Capabilities

Meanwhile, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that American forces launched another round of military strikes against Iran on Thursday, continuing operations for the sixth straight night.

According to CENTCOM, the objective of the campaign is to weaken Iran’s military capabilities, with Washington claiming that Tehran continues to pose a threat to commercial shipping passing through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategically important maritime routes.

The United States said the latest military operations were intended to protect regional security and maritime navigation, while Iran has strongly condemned the attacks, accusing Washington of targeting civilian infrastructure.

As both countries exchange military actions and strong warnings, concerns are growing over the possibility of a wider regional conflict in the Middle East.
