Himachal Congress Begins 2027 Poll Push, Plans Statewide Campaign Over Ram Mandir Row, NEET Leak and Apple Duty Cut
The Himachal Pradesh Congress has formally begun preparations for the 2027 Assembly elections, unveiling plans for an extensive statewide campaign aimed at highlighting issues such as the alleged Ram Mandir donation controversy, the NEET paper leak, and the reduction in import duty on apples.
The strategy was outlined after a two-day organisational meeting in Shimla, where senior party leaders discussed strengthening the Congress campaign and expanding its outreach across the state.
Addressing the media, Congress in-charge for Himachal Pradesh Rajni Patil said the party intends to take these issues directly to the people in an effort to challenge the BJP’s narrative ahead of the next Assembly elections.
Patil stated that the Congress would strongly pursue the Ram Mandir donation issue, arguing that people from Himachal Pradesh had contributed generously towards the temple. She questioned the BJP’s stance on the matter and called for greater transparency regarding the allegations.
Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee president Vinay Kumar said the party would also focus on the Centre’s decision to discontinue the Revenue Deficit Grant, along with allegations related to “Operation Lotus,” which the Congress claims was an attempt to destabilise the state government.
The party is also expected to intensify its campaign against the alleged NEET paper leak. According to Vinay Kumar, protests may be organised in educational institutions across the state to raise concerns about irregularities in competitive examinations.
Rajni Patil revealed that the Congress leadership would finalise its agitation strategy during the Parliamentary Affairs Committee meeting scheduled to be held in Dharamsala on July 16 and 17.
As part of its election outreach programme, the Congress is considering inviting senior leader Rahul Gandhi to address public rallies in Himachal Pradesh during September and October. Party leaders believe his visit could energise workers and strengthen the campaign ahead of the 2027 polls.
Patil also emphasised the need for stronger coordination between the party organisation and the state government. She suggested assigning Cabinet ministers responsibility for individual districts to improve grievance redressal mechanisms and ensure better implementation of government schemes.
On internal party matters, Patil reiterated that discipline remains important within the Congress but maintained that members are encouraged to express their views openly, describing it as a reflection of the party’s democratic functioning.
With the Assembly elections still over a year away, the Congress appears to be laying the groundwork for an early and issue-based campaign as political activity in Himachal Pradesh gradually gains momentum.
