Reinforcing the state government’s focus on strengthening rural infrastructure, Public Works and Urban Development Minister Vikramaditya Singh on Sunday inaugurated development projects worth over ₹12 crore in Mandi district.

The projects, valued at approximately ₹12.09 crore, were dedicated to the public at Kun ka Tar under Kot Tungal Gram Panchayat and are expected to significantly improve transportation, accessibility, and economic opportunities for residents across the region.

Bailey Bridge Over Beas River Restores Vital Connectivity

Among the major projects inaugurated was a newly constructed Bailey suspension bridge over the Beas River, built at a cost of ₹8.25 crore.

The bridge replaces the earlier structure that was washed away during the devastating floods of 2023, which had disrupted connectivity for thousands of residents. Its completion is expected to restore seamless travel between the Jogindernagar, Mandi Sadar, and Drang Assembly constituencies while supporting local businesses and daily commuters.

New Roads to Improve Rural Access

The minister also inaugurated the 5.5-kilometre Jablahi Nala–Barnota–Kadkoh road, developed at a cost of ₹2.76 crore, along with a 2-kilometre road connecting National Highway-003 to Satahan, constructed for ₹1.08 crore.

Addressing a public gathering, Vikramaditya Singh said the state government continues to prioritize rural development through better roads, enhanced transportation facilities, and increased employment opportunities.

He announced that a fresh Detailed Project Report (DPR) would be prepared for upgrading the Kun–Jogindernagar road to ensure safer and more efficient travel for residents.

Mandi–Jogindernagar Bus Services to Resume Soon

In another major announcement, the minister stated that bus services on the Mandi–Jogindernagar route via Kotli would be restored shortly.

According to him, directions have already been issued to the local administration and the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) to resume operations at the earliest, offering relief to commuters who have faced transportation challenges in recent years.

Government Focused on Quality Infrastructure Development

Highlighting the government’s infrastructure agenda, Vikramaditya Singh said construction work on roads, bridges, and public facilities is progressing steadily across Himachal Pradesh.

He emphasized that quality construction, timely execution of projects, regular maintenance, and improved road safety remain key priorities for the state administration.

Thana Paloun Power Project Gets FRA Clearance

The minister further announced that the Thana Paloun Power Project has secured approval under the Forest Rights Act (FRA), clearing the path for construction activities to commence soon.

He noted that the project is expected to contribute to state revenue generation while creating employment opportunities for local youth.

Bhubhu Jot Tunnel Receives In-Principle Approval

Vikramaditya Singh also revealed that the proposed Bhubhu Jot Tunnel has received in-principle approval, with its Detailed Project Report currently under preparation.

Once completed, the tunnel is expected to reduce travel time considerably, enhance regional connectivity, and strengthen strategic and defence-related infrastructure in the state.

During his visit, the minister interacted with local residents at Kotli Rest House and Kun, listened to public grievances, and resolved several issues on the spot. Members of the Kotli Press Club also honoured the minister and submitted a memorandum of demands, which he assured would be considered sympathetically.
