BJP Slams Congress Government in Himachal Over Corruption, Debt Crisis and Poor Infrastructure
Senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Anurag Thakur on Thursday intensified the Bharatiya Janata Party’s attack on the Congress-led government in Himachal Pradesh, accusing it of corruption, financial mismanagement and poor governance.
Senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Anurag Thakur on Thursday intensified the Bharatiya Janata Party’s attack on the Congress-led government in Himachal Pradesh, accusing it of corruption, financial mismanagement and poor governance.
Addressing BJP workers at the Community Hall in Dharamsala, Thakur claimed that the ruling Congress government was struggling to handle the state’s economy and had failed to deliver on the promises made to the people during the Assembly elections.
He alleged that the Congress leadership was “afraid of elections” and reluctant to face the public mood amid growing dissatisfaction across the state.
Dharamsala and Kangra Remain BJP’s Focus Areas
During his address, Thakur said Kangra district has always remained a major priority for the BJP government at the Centre. He highlighted the financial support provided by the Union Government for the development of Dharamsala Smart City and other infrastructure projects in the region.
According to him, the Centre has invested crores of rupees in urban development, roads and public facilities to improve the city’s infrastructure and tourism potential.
Congress Government Accused of Financial Mismanagement
Launching a sharp political attack, Thakur alleged that the Himachal Pradesh government was “neck deep in corruption” and surviving on “false announcements” while pushing the state towards a financial crisis.
Referring to the government’s repeated statement that the state treasury is empty, he claimed that employees, pensioners and bus drivers were facing delays in receiving payments and salaries.
The BJP leader further alleged that despite receiving substantial Revenue Deficit Grants from the Centre, the state government had borrowed nearly Rs 40,000 crore. He accused the Congress administration of wasting public money on corruption and failing to implement key welfare promises.
BJP Raises Concerns Over Roads and Infrastructure
Anurag Thakur also raised concerns over the condition of roads in Himachal Pradesh, calling the situation “utterly shameful”.
He claimed that roads being developed under Central Government schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), National Highways and Central Road Fund (CRF) projects were in better condition compared to roads managed by the state Public Works Department.
According to Thakur, the state government has failed to maintain road infrastructure and clear pending dues of contractors, which has affected development work across several districts.
Political Heat Rises in Himachal Pradesh
The latest remarks by Anurag Thakur come at a time when political tensions between the BJP and Congress are intensifying in Himachal Pradesh over issues related to governance, public finances and infrastructure development.
With both parties gearing up for future electoral battles, corruption allegations and economic management are expected to remain key political issues in the state in the coming months.
