In a strong and sustained crackdown on illegal mining activities, the Nurpur district police have seized and impounded seven heavy vehicles within just 48 hours, sending a clear message to violators operating in the region.
According to official sources, police teams intercepted three multi-axle trucks at Kandwal under the jurisdiction of Nurpur police station. These vehicles were allegedly involved in the transportation of illegally extracted minerals.
In a separate but coordinated operation, the Damtal police unit took action near Mazra, where two JCB machines and two additional multi-axle trucks were impounded. Authorities have initiated legal proceedings against those responsible under relevant mining laws.
Strict Legal Action Underway
Confirming the developments, Superintendent of Police Kulbhushan Verma stated that all cases related to the seized vehicles have been forwarded to the competent court. The proceedings will continue under applicable sections of the Mining Act and Motor Vehicles Act.
He emphasized that the police have adopted a zero-tolerance approach toward illegal mining and unauthorized mineral transportation. Regular patrolling, surprise inspections, and night drives are being intensified to curb such activities.
Earlier Crackdown Signals Strong Intent
This is not an isolated action. Just days earlier, on April 27, the district police carried out a night-long enforcement drive, during which 19 heavy vehicles, including 17 multi-axle trucks, were confiscated for similar violations.
Local Response: Support for Action
Interestingly, the latest crackdown has found support among local tractor owners. While they had earlier raised concerns over strict challans, many are now backing the police action—especially against large machinery allegedly engaged in illegal mining in rivers like the Beas and Chakki.
Residents believe that curbing illegal mining is essential to protect the environment and maintain fair practices in the region.
