Himachal Civic Body Elections 2026: 155 Candidates File Nominations on Day 1 Across 51 ULBs
The race for local governance in Himachal Pradesh has officially begun, with an enthusiastic response from candidates on the very first day of nominations for the upcoming civic body elections. A total of 155 candidates filed their nomination papers across 51 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) on Wednesday, signaling a strong start to the electoral process.

According to data released by the State Election Commission, Mandi district emerged as the frontrunner, recording the highest number of nominations at 34. Close behind were Kullu with 23 nominations and Kangra with 22, reflecting high political engagement in these regions.
Other districts also witnessed steady participation, with Bilaspur reporting 16 nominations and Shimla recording 14. Chamba and Sirmaur each saw 12 candidates entering the fray, while Solan and Una registered 11 nominations each. Interestingly, Hamirpur district remained quiet on Day 1, with no nominations filed.
The nomination window remains open, giving more candidates a chance to step forward. Authorities confirmed that nominations will continue on April 30 and May 2, ensuring ample opportunity for aspirants to participate.
The election process will move to the next stage with scrutiny of nomination papers scheduled for May 4, followed by the last date for withdrawal on May 6. Once finalized, candidates will be allotted their election symbols.
Voting for all 51 urban local bodies is set to take place on May 17, with polling conducted through Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). The results, which will determine the local leadership across the state, are scheduled to be announced on May 31.
With grassroots democracy at play, these elections are expected to shape the future of urban governance in Himachal Pradesh. As more nominations are expected in the coming days, the political atmosphere across the state is gradually gaining momentum.
