With the excitement of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) matches building up, authorities in Kangra district are leaving no room for risk. A large-scale emergency mock drill was successfully conducted at the iconic HPCA Stadium Dharamsala to ensure safety and preparedness ahead of the high-profile matches scheduled in May.

The drill, held on Tuesday, simulated a partial collapse of a spectator stand, testing how quickly and efficiently emergency teams could respond in a real-life crisis. The exercise aimed to evaluate coordination, response time, and rescue operations within a packed stadium scenario.

Officials stated that thousands of spectators, along with players, VIPs, and staff, are expected during the upcoming IPL fixtures. In such a situation, preparedness becomes critical to avoid chaos and ensure public safety.

Robin Kumar, in-charge of the Emergency Operations Cell, highlighted that this is just the beginning of a series of drills planned before the matches. “We are preparing for multiple possible scenarios to ensure that every department can respond swiftly and effectively,” he said.

🔍 More Drills Scheduled

Authorities have lined up additional mock drills on April 29 and May 5, covering various emergency situations such as:

  • Drone intrusion and airspace threats
  • Night-time evacuation during power failure
  • Fire incidents in food courts and electrical zones

These simulations are designed to test real-time decision-making and coordination under pressure.

🚑 Multi-Agency Participation

The drill witnessed active involvement from several key agencies, including:

  • District Disaster Management Authority
  • State Disaster Response Force (SDRF)
  • Fire Department
  • Health Department
  • Home Guards and volunteers

During the exercise, teams carried out rescue operations, evacuated injured individuals, administered first aid, managed ambulances, and controlled crowd movement. Emergency communication systems were also put to the test.

⚠️ Focus on Safety and Coordination

Officials confirmed that all departments responded promptly and showcased strong coordination. The primary goal of these drills is to ensure that, in case of any emergency during the IPL matches, authorities can act quickly and efficiently without confusion.

As IPL fever grips fans across the country, such proactive steps by the administration aim to provide a safe and secure environment for everyone attending the matches.
