A shocking gunfire scare disrupted the prestigious White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday night, forcing the emergency evacuation of former US President Donald Trump, senior officials, and nearly 2,500 attendees.

The incident occurred at the iconic Washington Hilton, just moments before Trump was scheduled to address the gathering. According to early reports, an armed individual attempted to breach a security checkpoint near the ballroom and opened fire, sending waves of panic across the venue.

Chaos and Swift Security Response

Eyewitnesses described terrifying scenes as gunshots rang out, prompting guests to duck under tables and rush toward exits. Within seconds, agents of the United States Secret Service sprang into action, securing the area and escorting key dignitaries to safety.

Trump, along with First Lady Melania Trump and Vice President JD Vance, was swiftly evacuated under heavy security cover. Officials later confirmed that all high-profile attendees were unharmed.

One Secret Service agent was hit during the exchange of fire but survived due to a bulletproof vest. He received medical attention and is expected to recover fully.

Suspect in Custody

Authorities identified the attacker as Cole Tomas Allen, a 31-year-old man from California. Investigators revealed he was heavily armed with a shotgun, handgun, and knives, highlighting the severity of the attempted breach.

The suspect was quickly subdued and taken into custody. Federal agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, have launched a detailed probe into his background and possible motives.

Global Reactions and Political Response

Reacting to the incident, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed relief over the safety of US leadership and strongly condemned the act, stating that violence has no place in a democracy.

In his remarks following the scare, Trump praised security personnel for preventing what could have been a far more devastating tragedy. He also raised concerns about the vulnerability of external venues hosting high-profile political events.

Renewed Debate on Security Measures

Taking to his platform Truth Social, Trump reiterated his demand for a high-security ballroom within the White House complex. He argued that such incidents could be avoided if events were held within a “militarily secure” environment.

The annual dinner was immediately cancelled as law enforcement agencies sealed off the hotel and conducted a thorough search of the premises. Officials are now examining how the suspect managed to approach a relatively less secure area before reaching the checkpoint.

A Wake-Up Call

While no fatalities were reported, the incident has once again exposed the risks associated with large political gatherings. Many attendees described the experience as deeply unsettling, sparking fresh calls for tighter coordination and enhanced security protocols at high-profile events across the United States.
