Bilaspur district witnessed enthusiastic voter participation during the first phase of the Panchayati Raj Institution elections on Tuesday, with an overall voter turnout of 75.61 per cent. The elections saw a significant response from rural voters across all development blocks, reflecting strong public engagement in grassroots democracy.

According to Rahul Kumar, the highest polling percentage was recorded in the Shri Naina Devi Ji development block, where 80.45 per cent of eligible voters exercised their franchise. On the other hand, Ghumarwin development block reported the lowest turnout at 71.76 per cent.

Women Voters Outshine Men in Bilaspur Polling

One of the major highlights of the elections was the impressive participation of women voters. Official data revealed that 79.23 per cent of women voters cast their votes, compared to 72.04 per cent male voter turnout. The figures indicate growing awareness and participation among women in local governance and democratic processes.

Election officials stated that the peaceful voting process and active participation reflected the increasing importance of Panchayati Raj institutions in rural development and decision-making.

Polling Conducted Across 62 Gram Panchayats

The polling process was conducted across 62 gram panchayats in Bilaspur district during the first phase. The breakdown of polling across development blocks is as follows:

  • Bilaspur Sadar development block: 17 gram panchayats with 78.86% turnout
  • Ghumarwin development block: 21 gram panchayats with 71.76% turnout
  • Shri Naina Devi Ji development block: 9 gram panchayats with 80.45% turnout
  • Jhandutta development block: 15 gram panchayats with 75.16% turnout

Officials confirmed that polling remained smooth and peaceful throughout the day, with voters reaching polling booths in large numbers from early morning.

Grassroots Democracy Sees Positive Response

The strong voter turnout in Bilaspur district highlights the growing public interest in local governance and rural leadership. Political observers believe that higher participation, especially among women voters, could play an important role in shaping development priorities at the village level.

The Panchayati Raj elections are considered crucial for strengthening rural administration, as elected representatives directly influence local infrastructure, welfare schemes, and community development projects.
