The annual board examinations conducted by the Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education (HPBOSE) officially begin today, marking a crucial milestone for more than two lakh students across the state.

This year, around 97,000 students are appearing for the Class 10 examinations, while approximately 87,000 students are taking the Class 12 exams. In addition, thousands of candidates are participating through re-examination and the State Open School (SOS) system.

Exams are being held at 2,384 centres set up across Himachal Pradesh, with extensive arrangements made to ensure transparency, discipline, and fairness.

Seven-Tier Monitoring System to Prevent Unfair Practices

To maintain the credibility of the examination process, the board has introduced a seven-tier monitoring system. Every examination centre is equipped with CCTV surveillance, and live monitoring is being conducted online from the board headquarters in Dharamsala.

Flying squads formed by the board and the Education Department are conducting surprise inspections across centres to prevent any unfair practices.

Board Chairman Dr Rajesh Sharma emphasized that maintaining fairness is the top priority. He stated that flying squads have direct responsibility in ensuring transparency and that inspections must strictly follow official guidelines.

Focus on Fairness Without Creating Student Pressure

While strict monitoring measures are in place, the board has also stressed the importance of maintaining a stress-free environment for students.

Dr Sharma clarified that inspections are not meant to create fear but to ensure a peaceful and disciplined atmosphere. He directed officials to conduct checks in a way that does not disturb students’ concentration or affect their time management.

The clear message from the board is that no student should feel anxious due to the presence of inspection teams, and everyone should get a fair opportunity to perform to their best potential.

Result Target Set for April 30

The board has set an ambitious target of declaring the results by April 30, ensuring that students can plan their next academic steps without unnecessary delay.

Officials have urged all students to follow examination guidelines carefully and maintain discipline throughout the exam period.

With enhanced security measures and a student-friendly approach, the HP Board aims to strike a balance between strict supervision and emotional well-being — ensuring that this examination season remains fair, transparent, and supportive for every student.
