Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Wednesday said the Himachal Pradesh government is investing Rs 3,000 crore in the health sector to strengthen advanced medical treatment facilities and ensure quality healthcare services across the state.

He said robotic surgery has already been introduced at Chamiyana and Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda, marking a historic milestone for the state’s public healthcare system. “There are plans to extend robotic surgical facilities to all medical colleges in Himachal Pradesh by early 2026,” the Chief Minister added.

To further enhance specialised treatment, Sukhu said the government has allocated Rs 5 crore each to five premier medical institutions — IGMC-Shimla, Tanda Medical College, Hamirpur Medical College, Ner Chowk Medical College and the Super Speciality Hospital at Chamiyana — for establishing bone marrow transplant (BMT) infrastructure.

He said this initiative is being complemented by the approval of Rs 75 crore for AI-enabled smart laboratories at IGMC-Shimla and Tanda, which will significantly reduce diagnostic waiting time through automation and advanced technology.

Addressing specialised healthcare needs of children, Sukhu said the government is moving ahead with the establishment of an Advanced Paediatric Centre at AIMSS-Chamiyana, aimed at providing world-class child healthcare services within the state. He added that the focus is on going beyond conventional infrastructure by adopting high-end technology and specialised patient care.

“The government’s vision is to ensure that every citizen — from the remotest mountain villages to urban centres — has access to quality and advanced medical treatment within Himachal Pradesh,” the Chief Minister said.

202 Appointments Made on Compassionate Grounds: CM Sukhu

The Chief Minister also said the state government has provided jobs to 202 individuals on compassionate grounds, describing it as a New Year gift to affected families.

Of these, 127 appointments were made in the Education Department as JOA (IT) and multi-task workers, while 74 appointments were given in the Home Department (70 as JOA (IT) and four as Class IV employees). Additionally, one appointment was made in the Prosecution Department.

Sukhu alleged that during the previous BJP government’s tenure, many eligible candidates awaiting compassionate appointments were ignored, leaving families in prolonged uncertainty. He said the present government is committed to ensuring timely and fair appointments to eligible applicants to provide them with financial security and dignity.
