Himachal: Change in cadre of Revenue Department employees, now transfers can be done anywhere
Shimla, 07 February: The Himachal Pradesh government has decided to remove the third and fourth class employees of the Revenue Department from the district cadre and include them in the state cadre. Under this change, Patwari, Kanungo, Driver, Ministerial Staff and Peon and other employees can now be deployed in any district of the state. Earlier all these employees came under the district cadre, due to which their transfer was limited to the concerned district. In this regard, a notification has been issued by Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue) Omkar Sharma.
Approval was given in the cabinet meeting
The state government had approved this proposal in the recent cabinet meeting, after which it has been implemented. The government believes that this change will make the administrative functioning more smooth and effective. With the implementation of the state cadre, there will be flexibility in the deployment of employees and the services of experienced employees can be taken even in those districts where there was a shortage of staff till now.
There was protest last year too
It is worth noting that last year also the government had tried to include these employees of the Revenue Department in the State Cadre. But then the employees had strongly opposed it. In August 2024, Patwaris and Kanungos along with other employees had demonstrated for about a month across the state.
During the strike, representatives of the Patwari and Kanungo Union met Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu in Dehra of Kangra district and demanded withdrawal of this decision. In view of the objections of the employees, the government had not taken any final decision at that time. But now the government has issued a notification to implement this scheme.
