Shimla: 2.060 grams of chitta recovered from 26-year-old Shivani resident Boileauganj Shimla

Shimla, 02 February: The network of drugs is spreading rapidly in the capital Shimla. The youth is especially falling prey to it. The matter of concern is that now girls are also getting addicted to drugs. Recently, a case has come to light in which the police have recovered heroin (chitta) from a girl.

Police seized heroin in Lalpani

On Saturday evening, a team of Sadar police station was patrolling. When the police team reached near the Directorate of Education Lalpani Shimla, they saw a girl sitting on a bench there. On seeing the police, the girl got nervous and threw something out of her pocket. After this, she started leaving from there. Seeing the suspicious actions of the girl, the police stopped her and questioned her. When the police investigated in the presence of witnesses on the spot, they found that the object thrown by the girl contained 2.060 grams of heroin (chitta) and after this the police took the girl into custody and asked her name and address. The girl was identified as 26-year-old Shivani, resident of Boileauganj, Shimla.

Police campaign against drugs continues

The police have registered a case under section 21 of the NDPS Act. However, due to the low quantity of heroin, the girl has been released on notice for the time being. But the police is investigating the matter in depth as to where this consignment of drugs came from and who are the people involved behind it.

In the last few months, the police have started strict action against drugs. Under the Mission Clean campaign, 46 FIRs have been registered in the last one month and 85 drug smugglers have been arrested. Many organized gangs are also included in these. Recently, the police had exposed the Sandeep Shah gang involved in online drug smuggling. The kingpin of this gang, Sandeep Shah, has been arrested from Kolkata.

Increasing drug addiction among youth is a matter of concern
The increasing trend of drug addiction in entire Himachal Pradesh including Shimla has become a serious problem for the society. Especially the youth is rapidly falling prey to drug addiction. Drug abuse is not only having a bad effect on the health of the youth. But it is also increasing the crime rate. The police is constantly taking action against drug smugglers, but the supply of drugs has not been completely stopped.
