Shimla, July 05: Rakesh Sharma, father of former MLA Chaitanya Sharma, appeared at Boileauganj police station on Friday in connection with the alleged horse-trading case in the Rajya Sabha elections of Himachal Pradesh and conspiracy to topple the Himachal Pradesh government. The SIT, which is investigating the entire matter, questioned Rakesh Sharma.

According to the information received, the SIT asked questions to Rakesh Sharma about bringing the rebel MLAs by chopper and bearing their expenses in the hotel. Rakesh Sharma is a retired IAS officer. He has also been the Chief Secretary of the neighboring state of Uttarakhand. In this case, the SIT had also summoned Tarun Bhandari, campaign advisor to former Haryana CM Manohar Lal, but he did not join the investigation due to ill health.
According to information received from reliable sources, the police investigation in this case has reached a former rebel MLA and the SIT. The SIT has summoned them to the police station on 10th and 11th July.
On 22nd June, the SIT had also questioned the BJP candidate from Hamirpur Ashish Sharma in this case. Ashish Sharma has been called again for questioning on 15th July.
It is worth noting that former MLA and BJP candidate from Hamirpur Ashish Sharma and former MLA Chaitanya Sharma’s father Rakesh Sharma have been accused of bribery in the Rajya Sabha elections. Shimla police has collected information about the expenses and payments made for meetings with BJP leaders including Ganga bath in Uttarakhand. It is being told that about Rs 30 lakh has been spent. Shimla police has found many important evidences in the investigation of the travel agency.
Let us tell you that on 10th March, Congress MLA Sanjay Awasthi and Bhuvneshwar Gaur had lodged a complaint with the Boileauganj police station against former MLA Ashish Sharma and former MLA Chaitanya Sharma’s father, retired IAS. A case was registered against officer Rakesh Sharma under IPC sections 171E and 171C, 120B and sections 7 and 8 of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Both of them are accused of conspiring to topple the Himachal government.
