Besides, Shimla Nagarik Sabha has also opposed the installation of smart meters. Nagrik Sabha Shimla protested outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office and warned Municipal Corporation Shimla, SJPNL Management, Electricity Regulatory Commission and Himachal Pradesh Government that if there is an increase in water, electricity, garbage and property tax, Nagrik Sabha will launch a big protest against it.

Convenor of Shimla Nagarik Sabha, Sanjay Chauhan has said that due to the policies of privatization and commercialization, the basic facilities of the public are being attacked. People are being deprived of their basic facilities. Under the guise of World Bank conditions and reimbursement of expenses, the rates of basic facilities in Shimla city are increasing by ten percent or more every year. The policy of increasing the rates of basic facilities by ten percent was brought in the year 2017 by the then BJP government and BJP ruled Municipal Corporation Shimla. It is very unfortunate that the present Congress government and Congress ruled Municipal Corporation Shimla are also implementing the same policy of BJP which will not be tolerated.

At the same time, Shimla Urban MLA Harish Janartha also termed the increase in garbage and water rates as wrong. Harish Janartha said that the Sukhu government has called a meeting with all the officials today in this regard, in which the agreement with the World Bank will also be studied and it will be ensured that even if there is to be an increase, at least water is supplied to the people And the bills should also be received on time and not the bills of two-three months should be imposed at once.

On the other hand, Municipal Corporation Shimla Commissioner Bhupender Kumar Attri says that there has been no separate increase in property tax and garbage bill. It has already been passed in the Municipal Corporation House that garbage bills will be increased by 10% every year. This is a routine process and no additional increase has been made. This time there has been an increase of eight percent in property tax, including last year and this year there will be an increase of eight percent. Property taxes are already set to increase by 4% per year.
