Reported & Written By Kumud Sharma, Diary Times, Nahan, March 14: So, the chessboard for the Lok Sabha elections has been laid. In Shimla parliamentary constituency, Bharatiya Janata Party has made the groom sit on a mare. At the same time, there is doubt over who will be the Congress groom. BJP has given ticket to sitting MP Suresh Kashyap.

Eyes are on how easy BJP’s journey will be. There are 13 Congress MLAs in the parliamentary constituency consisting of 17 assembly constituencies. Three are BJP MLAs, while one had won the election as an independent. Not only this, there are five ministers in the Sukhu government from Shimla parliamentary constituency, while one is the deputy speaker. There are also two Chief Parliamentary Secretaries. Although the Sukhu government had to face the displeasure of Public Works Department Minister Vikramaditya Singh, no Congress MLA here went beyond the party line and opposed the government. Two of the five ministers, Harshwardhan Chouhan and Vikramaditya, are flamboyant. In simple words, the test has come for Congress MLAs, ministers and leaders holding important positions.

These are the figures-

Since 2009, Congress has not been able to hoist the flag of victory on Shimla parliamentary constituency. Virendra Kashyap had won in 2009 and 2014. In 1999, BJP-HVC alliance got the seat. In 2004, Shandil won on Congress ticket. That is, after 2004, Congress did not find such a leader on this seat who could win. It is a different matter that late KD Sultanpuri, father of Kasauli MLA Vinod Sultanpuri, had created history by winning 6 consecutive elections. After this Congress could not do anything special.

Apart from this, there are also a good number of chairmen and chairpersons of corporations and boards. The question is also whether BJP has finalized the ticket early because every candidate should start campaigning on war footing in the parliamentary constituency dominated by Congress. Please note that Shimla parliamentary constituency is reserved for Scheduled Castes. 5 out of 17 assembly constituencies are reserved for Scheduled Castes. Reena Kashyap is the only woman MLA in the BJP camp in these four assembly constituencies.

This was the result of 2019 –

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Suresh Kashyap received 66.35% votes on BJP ticket. BJP had registered a growth of 14.05%. Congress candidate Dhaniram Shandil could get 30.50 percent votes. Congress had suffered a loss of 10.39 percent.

This could be interesting –

Although, there was speculation that Kasauli MLA Vinod Sultanpuri would contest on Congress ticket, but it is also discussed in the political circles that in view of the rebellion in the Congress in the state, the risk of playing a bet on the sitting MLA will not be taken. In such a situation, Pachchad’s Congress leader Dayal Pyari is also in the news regarding the ticket.

If Congress fields Dayal Pyari, the contest will become very interesting, because BJP candidate and Dayal Pyari belong to the same assembly constituency, Pachhad.

If there was no rebellion of Congress leader Gangu Ram Musafir in Himachal Assembly elections, Dayal Pyari could have turned the tables in the assembly elections also.

After Sirmour, Solan has been dominant in Shimla parliamentary constituency. In such a situation, Congress can think deeply about fielding a candidate from Shimla. It is a different matter that Congress would be considering this seat as the safest.
