In the coming days, Himachal Pradesh will experience significant weather changes, marked by extreme heat and shifting conditions. The region is currently under a yellow alert for severe heat waves, particularly affecting Una, Bilaspur, Sirmaur, Hamirpur, Solan, Mandi, Shimla, and Kangra. While most areas have remained dry, isolated light rains and hail have been reported. Keylong stood out as the coolest spot, contrasting with the intense heat in Una and Kangra. As the Manali-Leh Highway reopens with regulated traffic, travelers are advised to stay cautious due to potential weather-related hazards. Additionally, a new western cyclonic disturbance is anticipated to increase rainfall and thunderstorms from May 30, 2024. Prepare for a mix of heat and rain, and stay updated on local advisories for safe travel and activities.

 

Today in Himachal Pradesh, Shimla will have mostly clear skies. However, a heat wave is expected in parts of Una, Bilaspur, Sirmaur, Hamirpur, Solan, Mandi, Shimla, and Kangra. A yellow alert has been issued for these areas due to the heat wave. Stay cool and take precautions if you’re in these districts.

In the past 24 hours, Himachal Pradesh experienced very light rain in just a few places. Most of the lower hills, including Kangra, Hamirpur, Una, Bilaspur, and parts of Mandi, Solan, and Sirmaur, stayed dry. The middle hills, like Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur, and Mandi, also remained dry, as did the higher hills of Kinnaur, Lahaul-Spiti, Chamba, and Kullu. Temperatures were higher than usual both day and night. Kukumseri was the coldest spot at 7.1°C, while Una was the hottest at 44.4°C. Hail was reported in Bilaspur, Hamirpur, and Una. A new western cyclonic disturbance is expected to affect northwest India starting May 30, 2024.

Today, there was no snowfall in any part of Himachal Pradesh, but Manali received 1mm of rain. Rainfall is expected to increase from May 30, 2024, due to western cyclonic disturbances.

 

Today, Keylong was the coolest place in the region with a temperature of 20°C and a 99% chance of rain. Kufri was a bit warmer at 23.4°C with a 25% chance of rain. Shimla recorded 27.4°C with a 22% chance of rain. Chamba and Sundernagar were quite warm, at 37.6°C and 36°C respectively, both with a moderate chance of rain. Kangra was the hottest at 39.1°C but had only a 1% chance of rain.

The District Disaster Management Authority of Lahaul & Spiti has announced that the Manali-Leh Highway (NH-03) is now open for traffic under certain conditions. Vehicles are allowed to travel on alternate days, with 4×4 vehicles, 4×2 vehicles, and heavy trucks permitted from 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM when heading from Darcha to Sarchu. Motorcycles are not allowed at this time. On May 28, 2024, vehicles will be allowed to move from Sarchu to Darcha. The schedule may change depending on the weather and road conditions. Travelers should avoid unnecessary stops between Darcha and Sarchu and be prepared for possible avalanches and rock falls due to the weather. Tourists are advised to travel cautiously and follow all guidelines for a safe journey. Hotel and homestay owners are encouraged to inform their guests about these conditions.
