G20 Summit 2023 : India’s Permanent Mission in Geneva said that baseless and unwarranted allegations have been made. India as the G-20 Chair holds the privilege of holding meetings of this organization in any part of the country.
India reprimanded UN Special Envoy (Special Reporter) Fernand de Varens. Verence had objected to the holding of the G-20 meeting in Kashmir, saying that Jammu and Kashmir was linked to the violation of human rights of minorities. Lashing out at India’s Permanent Representative to Geneva, Verence said, he should not behave in an irresponsible manner to politicize the issue.
India’s Permanent Mission in Geneva tagged UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk on Twitter and wrote, “India strongly rejects the unconscionable remarks of the UN Special Envoy.” Baseless and unfair allegations have been made in this. India as the G-20 Chair holds the privilege of holding meetings of this organization in any part of the country.
Verence has acted irresponsibly to politicize the issue, which is a gross violation of the Code of Conduct as a UN Special Envoy. Verence has abused his position as UN Special Envoy to publicize his presumptive and biased findings on social media.
In his statement, Verence had alleged that holding the G20 meeting in Jammu and Kashmir was a means of normalizing military encroachment. However, massive human rights violations continue there. But, India is trying to get acceptance of the suppression of democratic rights of Kashmiri Muslims through meetings.
