EAM Jaishankar meets US envoy Garcetti, Nepal's envoy Sharma to discuss ties

Former Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti was sworn in as the new US Ambassador to India by US Vice President Kamala Harris on March 24. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday met US Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti, and Nepal’s Ambassador to India, Shankar P Sharma, to discuss the progress in India-US relations. Jaishankar tweeted, “It was a pleasure to welcome US Ambassador Eric Garcetti.” They also discussed ideas on the Quad, a quadrilateral security dialogue, an alliance between India, the US, Japan and Australia. EAM’s tweet further read, “Discussed the enormous progress in our relations, especially in the last decade. Exchanged views on the recent Quad Summit. Confident that India-US relations are on a strong path forward.” Will grow.”

The tentative version of the Quad meeting (which was earlier scheduled to be held in Sydney) was recently held in Hiroshima, Japan. During the meeting, PM Modi with US President Joe Biden; Japan’s Prime Minister, Fumio Kishida, and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese shared a collective vision of a free, open Indo-Pacific amid China’s growing assertiveness in the region. In addition, the External Affairs Minister also met Shankar P Sharma, Ambassador of Nepal to India on Thursday. Taking to Twitter, Jaishankar wrote, “Delighted to have Ambassador @DrShankarSharma discuss our deep and multifaceted partnership with Nepal this morning. Committed to further enhance it in the days to come.”
