Congress Candidates Himachal: Jaggi From Dharamshala, Vivek From Kutlehar Named Above, Survey Will Be Conducted On Four Assembly Seats.

Reported & Written By Kumud Sharma, Diary Times, Lahaul Spiti, March 30: For the assembly by-elections to be held in Himachal Pradesh, Congress party may field Devendra Jaggi from Dharamshala and Vivek Sharma from Kutlehar. Their names are at the top of the list and there is almost a consensus on these names in the Congress party. Candidates will be selected for four other assembly seats through survey. A panel of three probable candidates each of the Congress party has been prepared for the by-elections in Sujanpur, Nalagarh, Gagret and Lahaul-Spiti assembly constituencies. Only the leader who tops the Congress Party survey will be recommended for ticket in the by-election. Brainstorming is also going on on the claims of the leaders who are angry with BJP and expressed their desire to join Congress.

Recently, in the meeting of the coordination committee of Congress held in Chandigarh, a strategy was made regarding the by-elections to be held in six assembly constituencies. After mutual consent among all the leaders, the names of Vivek Sharma from Kutlehar and Devendra Jaggi from Dharamshala have almost been finalized. The proposal of these two names has also been sent to the high command through party in-charge Rajiv Shukla. Vivek Sharma Vikku had also contested the assembly elections from Kutlehar in 2017. Presently Vivek is the state secretary of the party and has also been the Block Congress President of Kutlehar. From Dharamshala, Congress has decided to play its bet on former Municipal Corporation Mayor Devendra Jaggi.
It has been agreed to make Jaggi a candidate from Dharamshala to keep the Congress united and to break into the supporters of former minister Sudhir Sharma. On the other hand, the name of Kangra Central Cooperative Bank President Kuldip Singh Pathania is being discussed from Sujanpur. Other options are also being considered from Sujanpur. The names of Rakesh Kalia, who resigned from BJP from Gagret, and former Industries Minister and former State Congress President Kuldeep Kumar are being discussed. In Barsar, churning is going on regarding former MLA Manjeet Dogra, Naresh Lakhanpal, Youth Congress leader Vishal Kumar, Nitin Sharma and in Lahaul-Spiti, former MLA Ramlal Markanda, former MLA Raghuveer Singh and Dorje Large, who resigned from BJP.

Names of Pratibha Singh from Mandi, Satpal Raizada from Hamirpur yet to be announced –
It has been decided in principle to make State Congress President Pratibha Singh from Mandi parliamentary seat and former MLA Satpal Raizada from Hamirpur seat as candidates for the Lok Sabha elections. Now both these names are yet to be approved by the Central Election Committee of Congress. Brainstorming is going on regarding caste and regional balance to decide candidates from Shimla and Kangra seats. Congress is also making strategies keeping in view the candidates announced by BJP.
BJP has again fielded Suresh Kashyap from Shimla seat. Suresh Kashyap belongs to district Sirmour. In such a situation, Congress can field candidates from Sirmour to create regional balance and polarize the votes of Sirmour. If caste balance is seen, a candidate can be given from Shimla also. BJP has made Rajeev Bhardwaj its candidate from Kangra. In such a situation, there is a discussion going on within the Congress as to who should be made the candidate from Brahmin, OBC or Rajput class.
