Himachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri on Saturday inaugurated the newly constructed academic building of Government College Haroli, developed at an estimated cost of ₹14 crore. The institution, named after his wife, marks a significant step toward strengthening higher education infrastructure in Una district.

Addressing students and faculty during the inauguration ceremony, Agnihotri highlighted the government’s commitment to expanding educational opportunities in the region. He said the college currently offers undergraduate programmes in Humanities, Commerce, Business Administration, Computer Applications, and Science, along with postgraduate courses in Commerce, Political Science, English, History, and Hindi.

The Deputy Chief Minister announced that B.Sc. Computer Science and Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Applications (PGDCA) will be introduced from the upcoming academic session, providing students with more career-oriented learning options.

Focus on Science and Professional Education

Agnihotri also revealed plans to establish modern laboratories for M.Sc. programmes in Botany, Chemistry, Physics, and Zoology, paving the way for postgraduate science education from the next academic year. In addition, the college is set to introduce a Law degree programme, further expanding its academic offerings.

He expressed confidence that these developments would help increase student enrollment and stated that efforts are underway to double the college’s current strength of nearly 500 students over the coming year.

Congress Government Completes Pending Project

Speaking about the college building, Agnihotri said the foundation stone was laid in 2017 by the then Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh. He alleged that the previous BJP government failed to make progress on the project during its tenure, while the present Congress government completed the construction and dedicated the facility to students.

Strengthening Student-Community Engagement

The Deputy Chief Minister also directed the college administration to organize educational exposure visits, conduct regular parent-teacher interactions, and hold annual alumni meets to strengthen ties between the institution and the local community.

During the event, Principal Rajinder Kumar presented a report highlighting the college’s academic achievements and various activities conducted on the campus.
