Heavy rainfall is expected to persist across Himachal Pradesh until July 11, prompting the Meteorological Centre to issue orange and yellow alerts for multiple districts in the state.

According to the latest weather forecast, an orange alert has been issued for Kangra, Una and Sirmaur districts for July 5, indicating the possibility of very heavy to heavy rainfall at isolated places. Meanwhile, Shimla, Mandi and Chamba districts remain under a yellow alert, with moderate to heavy showers likely in some areas.

The weather department has cautioned residents that intense rainfall, particularly in Kangra and Sirmaur, could trigger waterlogging in low-lying regions, create hazardous road conditions and affect routine activities. Slippery roads, poor visibility, traffic congestion and temporary disruption of essential services are among the concerns highlighted by officials.

In its advisory, the Meteorological Centre urged people living in vulnerable locations to remain vigilant and avoid waterlogged areas. Residents have also been advised to stay away from rivers, rivulets and streams during periods of heavy rainfall and strictly follow safety instructions issued by the state administration.

Weather experts stated that while minimum temperatures are likely to remain close to normal levels through July 11, maximum temperatures across most parts of the state may witness a decline of 2°C to 5°C due to the ongoing wet spell.

During the past 24 hours, several areas of Himachal Pradesh recorded light to moderate rainfall. Dharamshala received the highest rainfall at 39.2 mm, followed by Naina Devi with 30 mm. Una recorded 14.2 mm rainfall, while Kasauli received 14 mm. Shimla registered 8.4 mm, Kangra 7.6 mm, Nahan 6.2 mm, Bilaspur 5.2 mm and Sundernagar 4.8 mm of rainfall.

Temperature conditions across the state remained largely normal. Maximum temperatures ranged between 21°C and 36°C, while minimum temperatures varied from 10°C to 27°C.

Bilaspur recorded the highest maximum temperature at 36°C, whereas Kukumseri in Lahaul and Spiti district registered the lowest minimum temperature at 10.1°C.

With heavy rain likely to continue over the coming days, authorities have advised residents and travellers to keep a close watch on weather updates and take necessary precautions while commuting or planning outdoor activities.
