The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) registered a significant political victory in Palampur on Saturday after its supported candidates won both the chairman and vice-chairman posts in the Block Development Samiti (BDS) elections, dealing a setback to the Congress party.

BJP-backed candidate Usha was elected as the Chairperson of the Palampur Block Development Samiti, while Bindu secured the Vice-Chairperson’s position following the completion of the voting process.

The result came as a surprise to political observers, as the Congress had reportedly claimed a numerical advantage within the BDS. However, party insiders suggest that internal divisions may have altered the outcome.

Sources indicate that the Congress suffered due to alleged cross-voting by two members associated with the party. Additionally, one Congress-supported member is reported to have abstained from participating in the election, weakening the party’s prospects and ultimately benefiting the BJP.

The victory is being viewed as an important morale boost for the BJP in the Palampur region, reinforcing the party’s organisational strength at the grassroots level. At the same time, the result has raised questions about unity within the Congress camp and is expected to trigger internal discussions over the reasons behind the reported dissent.

The election process was conducted peacefully under the supervision of SDM OP Yadav, who served as the Returning Officer. The results were announced immediately after the counting of votes.

Reacting to the outcome, BJP leaders described the victory as a reflection of growing public confidence in the party’s local leadership and sustained organisational efforts. Political analysts believe the result could influence future local body and panchayat elections in the region, prompting both major parties to intensify their outreach strategies.

The Palampur BDS election outcome has already sparked political debate, with attention now shifting towards how the Congress leadership addresses concerns related to cross-voting and internal coordination ahead of upcoming electoral contests.
