Himachal Pradesh Weather Alert: Heavy Rain, Hailstorm and Thunderstorms Expected Today, Orange Alert Issued in 5 Districts
Residents across Himachal Pradesh should prepare for a significant change in weather conditions as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange and yellow weather alerts for several districts. Heavy rainfall, hailstorms, lightning and strong winds are expected to affect many parts of the hill state throughout the day.

According to the Meteorological Centre, an Orange Alert has been issued for Shimla, Mandi, Kullu, Kangra and Sirmaur districts. These areas are likely to experience intense spells of rain accompanied by hailstorms, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds at isolated locations.
Meanwhile, a Yellow Alert remains in effect for Solan, Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur and Chamba districts. Residents in these regions may witness light to moderate rainfall along with thunderstorms and strong winds during the day.
Weather officials have advised people to remain cautious, especially those living in vulnerable areas prone to landslides, waterlogging or falling trees. Travelers and commuters are also urged to monitor local weather updates before planning journeys.
Temperature Remains Pleasant Across the State
Despite the forecast of severe weather, temperatures across Himachal Pradesh have remained relatively comfortable. Shimla recorded a minimum temperature of 19°C, while Dharamsala reported 18.5°C. Solan registered 20°C, Kangra 23.6°C, Mandi 21.6°C, and Sundernagar 22°C.
Other key locations recorded the following minimum temperatures:
- Kufri: 15.5°C
- Kalpa: 10.3°C
- Una: 22.6°C
- Nahan: 17.1°C
- Chamba: 18.9°C
- Keylong: 7°C
- Paonta Sahib: 26°C
- Bhuntar: 17.2°C
Kukumseri Records Lowest Temperature
Among all reporting stations, Kukumseri in Lahaul and Spiti district remained the coldest place in Himachal Pradesh, recording a minimum temperature of 6.9°C.
Advisory for Residents
Authorities have advised residents to stay indoors during thunderstorms, avoid taking shelter under trees, and remain alert to weather warnings issued by local administrations. Farmers and orchard owners are also advised to take necessary precautions as hailstorms may impact crops and fruit-bearing plants.
With adverse weather conditions expected to continue through the day, people are encouraged to stay updated with official forecasts and follow safety guidelines issued by the authorities.
