Himachal Congress to Protest Against Rising Fuel Prices Across State on May 25
The Himachal Pradesh Congress has announced statewide demonstrations against the continuous rise in petrol and diesel prices, intensifying its attack on the BJP-led Central Government over inflation and increasing financial pressure on common citizens.
The Himachal Pradesh Congress has announced statewide demonstrations against the continuous rise in petrol and diesel prices, intensifying its attack on the BJP-led Central Government over inflation and increasing financial pressure on common citizens.
Himachal Congress president Vinay Kumar said the party will hold protests at all district headquarters on May 25. He directed district presidents to ensure the active participation of party leaders, office-bearers, frontal organisations, and workers during the demonstrations.
The Congress leader alleged that the Centre has failed to control fuel prices and accused oil companies of repeatedly increasing rates without considering the impact on the public. According to Kumar, the rising cost of petrol and diesel has directly contributed to inflation and pushed up the prices of essential commodities across the country.
“The continuous increase in fuel prices is putting an additional burden on people already struggling with inflation,” Kumar said while addressing party workers.
Congress Targets BJP Over Inflation
Launching a sharp attack on the BJP, Kumar claimed that the ruling party at the Centre has given oil companies a “free hand” to increase fuel prices. He also criticised the Himachal BJP leadership for remaining silent on the issue despite growing public concern.
The Congress president said the party would continue to raise its voice against inflation and stand with the people. He added that Congress workers across Himachal Pradesh would unite to protest what he described as “anti-people policies.”
Kumar further alleged that the BJP was trying to divert attention from real issues affecting citizens. He claimed that the party was frustrated after the results of the recent urban local body elections and suggested that the Congress would also perform strongly in the upcoming Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) elections.
Rising Fuel Prices Continue to Impact Household Budgets
The issue of rising fuel prices has once again become a major political flashpoint in Himachal Pradesh, with opposition parties linking the increase to higher transportation costs and rising prices of daily-use items.
Political observers believe the protests could intensify the debate around inflation and cost of living ahead of future local body and rural elections in the state.
