Tensions between Iran and the United States have escalated once again after Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi openly stated that Tehran has “no trust” in Washington. His remarks come at a time when diplomatic efforts to end the ongoing conflict remain stalled, raising concerns across global political and energy markets.
Speaking to reporters during his visit to New Delhi on Friday, Araghchi said Iran would only consider negotiations with the US if Washington showed genuine seriousness toward diplomacy. He also pointed to “contradictory messages” from the American side, which, according to him, have increased Iran’s doubts over the real intentions of the US government.
The latest comments reflect the growing strain in Iran-US relations and signal that meaningful talks may still be far away.
Iran Issues Warning Over Strait of Hormuz Movement
Araghchi also addressed concerns surrounding the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s busiest oil shipping routes.
He stated that commercial vessels could continue passing through the strait, provided they were not “at war” with Iran and coordinated with Iranian naval forces. However, he described the situation in the region as “very complicated,” highlighting the fragile security environment around the crucial waterway.
The Strait of Hormuz plays a major role in global oil and commodity transportation, and any instability in the region often impacts international energy prices and financial markets.
Iran Welcomes China’s Diplomatic Role
When asked whether Iran would accept mediation efforts from China, Araghchi responded positively, saying Tehran values the support of nations willing to help reduce tensions.
He emphasized Iran’s strong strategic relationship with Beijing and noted that any diplomatic assistance from China would be welcomed. His statement comes amid increasing global discussions over China’s possible role in Middle East diplomacy.
Iran and China have continued to strengthen economic and political ties in recent years, especially as Tehran faces pressure from Western countries.
Donald Trump Says Patience With Iran Is Running Out
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said that his patience with Iran was “running out.” Trump also claimed that Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed that Tehran should reopen and maintain stability in the Strait of Hormuz.
However, China has not officially confirmed whether it plans to actively intervene or mediate in the ongoing tensions between Iran and the US.
