At the ongoing BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi strongly criticised what he described as “US bullying” and called on BRICS nations to stand together against coercive global policies.
Addressing delegates on Thursday, Araghchi said that many countries represented at the summit had experienced similar forms of international pressure and interference. He urged member nations to adopt a stronger and more united response against such practices.
“Resistance against US bullying is not an unfamiliar battle for many of us,” Araghchi said during his speech. “It is time for countries to jointly step up and make it clear that these practices belong in the dustbin of history.”
The Iranian Foreign Minister also warned about rising geopolitical instability and said that declining global powers often become more aggressive while trying to maintain influence.
“Today, our nations are closer to one another than ever before, and we cannot ignore the common and dangerous challenge we all face,” he added. “History has shown that empires in decline will stop at nothing to arrest their inevitable fate.”
The remarks came during the high-profile BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting being hosted in New Delhi on May 14 and 15. The event has brought together several key global leaders at a time when tensions continue to rise in West Asia and global diplomacy remains under pressure.
On the sidelines of the summit, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in a significant diplomatic engagement aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation and regional stability.
The meeting highlighted the growing importance of India-Iran relations as both countries continue to explore stronger economic, strategic and regional partnerships. The official X account of the Iranian Embassy in India also confirmed the high-level interaction.
With India chairing this year’s ministerial gathering, the BRICS platform is increasingly being viewed as an influential global forum for strategic dialogue, multilateral cooperation and mediation during ongoing international conflicts.
