Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi accused the United States of lacking good faith and called Washington the biggest obstacle to ending the ongoing conflict, as tensions rise in the Strait of Hormuz and Middle East diplomacy intensifies.
Amid rising tensions in the Middle East, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has sharply criticised the United States, accusing Washington of dishonesty and a lack of genuine commitment toward ending the ongoing regional conflict. His remarks come at a time when global concerns are growing over the security situation in the Strait of Hormuz and the broader stability of the region.
Speaking during a meeting in Tehran with Norway’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Araghchi said that the “lack of good faith and dishonesty of the United States” remains the biggest hurdle in achieving lasting peace. According to Iranian state media outlet Press TV, the Iranian foreign minister also condemned what he described as America’s threatening and provocative approach toward Iran.
Iran Blames US and Israel for Regional Instability
Araghchi alleged that recent military actions by the United States and Israel against Iran are responsible for the current tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategically important oil shipping routes. He further accused the two nations of repeatedly violating ceasefire understandings through continued pressure on Iran’s maritime activities and ports.
The Iranian foreign minister stated that Tehran is currently reviewing possible regulatory measures related to the Strait of Hormuz in line with international law. As a coastal nation bordering the crucial waterway, Iran has often maintained that it has a significant role in ensuring regional maritime security.
Iranian Spokesperson Says Conflict Is Beyond Geopolitics
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei intensified the rhetoric in a strongly worded post on X (formerly Twitter). He described the ongoing conflict as more than a geopolitical battle, calling it a struggle between “good and evil” that could define the future of the region.
Baqaei accused the opposing side of violating international laws of war and targeting civilians. In his statement, he claimed that Iran has faced aggression despite portraying itself as a peace-seeking nation. His comments reflected the increasingly emotional and confrontational tone emerging from Tehran amid the continuing crisis.
Donald Trump Claims Iran’s Military Has Been ‘Decimated’
On the other side, US President Donald Trump reiterated his tough stance on Iran before departing for China. Trump claimed that Iran’s military capabilities had been severely weakened and asserted that the United States would emerge victorious “peacefully or otherwise.”
“We’ll win it one way or the other,” Trump said while addressing reporters. He further claimed that Iran’s navy, air force, and key military infrastructure had been heavily damaged.
The comments signal that tensions between Washington and Tehran remain far from easing, despite growing international calls for diplomatic solutions and de-escalation.
UAE and Saudi Arabia Discuss Regional Security
As the situation continues to evolve, diplomatic discussions among Gulf nations have also intensified. According to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan held a phone conversation with Donald Trump to discuss strategic cooperation and recent Middle East developments.
Separately, the UAE president also spoke with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The leaders reportedly discussed regional security concerns, ongoing coordination efforts, and the potential implications of the conflict on international stability.
Why the Strait of Hormuz Matters Globally
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most sensitive maritime chokepoints, with a significant portion of global oil shipments passing through the narrow waterway every day. Any escalation involving Iran, the United States, or Israel could impact global energy markets and international trade routes.
With diplomatic tensions escalating and military rhetoric intensifying from all sides, global powers are closely monitoring developments in the region. Analysts believe the coming days could prove crucial in determining whether the crisis moves toward negotiations or further confrontation.
