In a significant development, the Una district police have returned a vehicle belonging to the Mata Chintpurni Trust, complying with recent directions issued by the Himachal Pradesh High Court. The move has drawn attention to the use of temple-owned resources by administrative authorities.
The Bolero jeep, which had been stationed at the Mata Chintpurni police station for nearly two years, was officially handed back to the trust on Thursday. The vehicle was originally donated by a devotee to the temple deity, reflecting religious sentiment and faith.
However, the vehicle was later assigned to the local police to assist in maintaining law and order in the temple area, a region that witnesses heavy footfall from pilgrims throughout the year.
The matter reached the High Court after a former trustee raised concerns over the alleged misuse of trust resources by the administration. Taking the issue seriously, the court directed the Una district administration to return all such vehicles that were either purchased using trust funds or donated by devotees.
The High Court also set a strict five-day deadline for compliance, prompting swift action from the authorities. Following the order, the vehicle has now been parked at the Yatri Niwas complex under the supervision of trust officials.
Meanwhile, officials have assured that the functioning of the police station will not be affected. The Amb Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) stated that the Superintendent of Police has committed to providing an alternative vehicle to ensure uninterrupted law enforcement services in the area.
This development highlights the growing scrutiny over the management of religious trust assets and reinforces the judiciary’s role in ensuring transparency and accountability.
