Tensions between Iran and the United States remain high despite a temporary pause in hostilities, as Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian sharply criticized Washington’s approach to diplomacy.

In a strongly worded message shared on social media, Pezeshkian accused the US of displaying “hypocritical” behavior, claiming that its actions contradict its public stance on negotiations. He emphasized that Iran is open to dialogue but said ongoing pressure tactics—including sanctions and threats—are blocking meaningful progress.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has always welcomed dialogue,” Pezeshkian stated, adding that the world is witnessing a gap between American words and actions.

His remarks came shortly after former US President Donald Trump announced an extension of the ceasefire period, signaling a possible window for renewed diplomatic engagement. According to Trump, the decision was made to give Iran’s leadership more time to present a unified proposal for negotiations.

Trump also revealed that the move followed requests from Asim Munir and Shehbaz Sharif, highlighting Pakistan’s role in easing tensions. He noted that Iran’s government appears internally divided, which has delayed the formation of a clear negotiation stance.

Despite extending the ceasefire, Trump made it clear that the US military posture remains unchanged. He said the blockade would continue and forces would stay on high alert until Iran submits its proposal and talks are concluded.

The latest developments underline the fragile nature of the situation, where diplomatic opportunities exist but mistrust continues to run deep. While both sides signal openness to talks, the path forward remains uncertain, with global observers closely watching whether this ceasefire extension leads to a breakthrough—or further escalation.
