In a sharp political escalation, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Sunday launched a direct attack on Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, accusing him of struggling to retain his leadership position amid growing internal divisions within the BJP.

Speaking during his visit to Kullu, the Chief Minister alleged that the BJP’s Himachal unit is deeply divided into multiple factions. According to Sukhu, these internal conflicts have weakened the party’s leadership, with some groups actively attempting to unseat Jai Ram Thakur as the Leader of the Opposition.

“He is under pressure and fighting to save his chair, rather than focusing on the state’s development,” Sukhu remarked, questioning Thakur’s leadership and vision.

Allegations of Neglect During Disasters

The Chief Minister also accused the BJP of failing Himachal Pradesh during times of crisis. Referring to recent natural disasters in the Kullu-Manali region, Sukhu claimed that BJP leaders did not actively seek adequate financial assistance from the Centre.

He further alleged that despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi announcing a relief package, state BJP leaders remained silent and failed to push for additional support.

“Not a single BJP leader from Himachal demanded a relief package when the state needed it the most,” Sukhu said, adding that the opposition was more focused on politics than public welfare.

Social Media Campaign Accusations

In another strong claim, Sukhu alleged that the BJP has been running an organised campaign to tarnish the image of the state government. He stated that a dedicated team operates from the party’s Shimla office to target government leaders on social media.

“They are investing resources to defame the government instead of addressing real issues,” he said.

Clarification on Him Care Scheme

Addressing concerns over the Him Care health scheme, Sukhu clarified that the program is not being discontinued. Instead, he said the government is working to expose alleged irregularities from the previous BJP regime.

He cited shocking claims of fraudulent medical billing, including instances where payments were allegedly made for procedures performed on ineligible patients.

CM Visits Bereaved Families in Kullu

Earlier in the day, Sukhu visited Kullu to offer condolences to the families of two Congress MLAs. He met the family of Sunder Singh Thakur in Tegubehar following the demise of his father and later visited Katrain to console Manali MLA Bhuvneshwar Gaur on the loss of his elder brother.

“The state government stands firmly with both families in this difficult time,” Sukhu said, expressing solidarity and support.
