Amid rising concerns over LPG availability, the Shimla district administration has stepped in to calm public anxiety, urging residents not to indulge in panic booking of LPG cylinders.

The Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs on Sunday clarified that the supply of domestic LPG cylinders across the district remains stable and unaffected. Officials emphasized that there is no shortage of LPG, and current availability is consistent with the normal supply levels seen before recent global tensions.

However, authorities noted a sudden spike in demand driven by panic booking, which has disrupted the smooth distribution system. According to the department, many consumers are placing refill orders based on entitlement rather than actual usage, leading to unnecessary delays and backlog.

A department spokesperson explained that this surge in demand is artificial and avoidable. “Consumers are requested to book LPG cylinders only when genuinely required. Panic booking is creating logistical challenges and affecting equitable distribution,” the spokesperson said.

To ensure better management and public convenience, residents have also been advised not to visit LPG agency counters for collecting refills. Instead, they should rely on the existing delivery system.

In urban areas, LPG cylinders are being delivered directly to households, while in rural regions, distribution is being carried out through pre-decided routes and focal delivery points. Authorities stressed that on-the-spot issuance at agency counters is not permitted, and visiting agencies unnecessarily may lead to crowding and law-and-order concerns.

Despite repeated advisories, some consumers continue to approach agency counters, insisting on immediate delivery. Officials warned that such practices not only violate the system but also create avoidable disruptions.

The district administration has assured that it is closely monitoring the situation and has put all necessary measures in place to maintain uninterrupted LPG supply across Shimla.

In conclusion, the administration has appealed for public cooperation, urging citizens to remain calm, act responsibly, and trust the existing supply system to function efficiently.
