The Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited (HPSEBL) has recorded a profit of around Rs 300 crore up to December 31, 2025, from the sale of power, compared to Rs 206 crore during the corresponding period of the previous financial year.

Stating this here today, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said the improved performance was the result of the government’s ‘Vyavastha Parivartan’ and its smart policy initiatives.

The Chief Minister said major infrastructure upgrades had played a key role in improving efficiency. About 1.5 lakh smart meters have been installed in Shimla and Dharamsala, enabling consumers to monitor real-time electricity consumption through mobile applications. Additionally, the implementation of advanced Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems in industrial hubs has reduced distribution losses by nearly 4 per cent.

Highlighting the importance of field staff, Sukhu said they were the backbone of HPSEBL. To address long-pending vacancies, the state government has approved the engagement of more than 2,100 youth in the board. This includes the appointment of 1,602 Bijli Upbhogta Mitras and 500 T-Mates.

“These recruitments will strengthen ground-level operations, ensure quicker repair of damaged infrastructure and help restore power supply swiftly during natural disasters,” the Chief Minister said.

The government has also taken several initiatives to ensure reliable power supply in tribal and remote areas. To strengthen electricity infrastructure in the Killar valley, projects worth Rs 62 crore are underway. These include Rs 5 crore for laying an 11 KV line from Tindi to Shaur and Rs 45.50 crore for a 33 KV line from Thirot to Killar.

In the tribal belt of Lahaul-Spiti, 148 households in Kaza have been provided with 1 kW solar off-grid plants. Similarly, solar facilities have been extended to 57 households in Mud, 34 in Langza, 35 in Hikkim and 22 in Kaumik.

The Chief Minister said decentralised solar projects with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) of 400 kW each would also be installed at Hillour and Dharwas villages in the Pangi tribal region of Chamba district.
