IGMC Shimla Doctor Assault Fallout: Jai Ram Thakur Blames Govt for Health Services Disruption
Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur accuses the Himachal Pradesh government of mishandling the IGMC assault issue, saying lack of timely dialogue with doctors led to a statewide healthcare disruption, while BJP gears up organisationally ahead of Assembly polls.
Former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur on Sunday accused the state government of failing to handle the doctors’ strike at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) in a timely and sensitive manner, leading to widespread disruption of healthcare services across Himachal Pradesh.
Addressing the media after presiding over a meeting of BJP workers of the Nurpur organisational district at Jassur, Thakur said the issue should have been taken seriously and resolved at the outset. Terming the assault incident at IGMC as unfortunate, he said people across the state suffered due to what he described as the government’s casual and delayed approach.
He said the government should now focus on restoring normalcy in health services by engaging in meaningful dialogue with doctors and persuading them to call off the strike. “Healthcare cannot be allowed to collapse because of administrative indecision,” he added.
Thakur also said that the BJP has launched a special organisational strengthening drive across all Assembly constituencies, noting that only around 20 months remain before the next Assembly elections. He said meetings are being held in every Assembly segment to prepare party cadres for the polls and to highlight what he termed the “failures and anti-people policies” of the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led state government.
