Sourovi Dutta, Assistant Professor in the Department of Architecture at the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Hamirpur, has been awarded a prestigious research grant of ₹1.5 crore under the Scheme for Promotion of Academic and Research Collaboration (SPARC) of the Union Ministry of Education.

Congratulating her on the achievement, NIT Director H.M. Suryawanshi said the grant reflected the institute’s growing focus on sustainable development and high-impact research. He noted that the project would employ advanced computer-based simulation tools to evaluate natural lighting, thermal performance and indoor air quality, while proposing climate-sensitive and energy-efficient retrofitting solutions.

Dutta said the research project, titled “Energy Nexus: Decolonial and Simulation-Based Retrofitting Strategies for Energy Efficiency and Thermal Comfort in Government Residential Buildings of Chandigarh,” aims to assess the energy efficiency and climate resilience of existing government residential buildings.

She added that the project brings together a strong network of collaborators, including Nand Kumar from MNIT Jaipur, Faiz Ahmed from the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA), Vijayawada, and international experts from University College London (UCL), UK, highlighting both national and global academic collaboration.

NIT Registrar Archana Santosh Nanoti described the achievement as a moment of pride for the institute. She said the two-year research project aligns with India’s G20 priorities on sustainability, green transition and international research cooperation.

“The project will significantly contribute to developing energy-efficient and climate-responsive solutions for urban housing, while further strengthening NIT Hamirpur’s academic standing,” she added.
