Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has announced the establishment of a ₹300-crore Dental Health Research Centre in Hamirpur, marking a major step towards strengthening dental healthcare, medical research and advanced treatment facilities in the state.

The announcement was made on Saturday while addressing the 4th Annual Conference of the Himachal Pradesh State Chapter of the Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons of India (AOMSI).

During the event, the Chief Minister also announced that the Government Dental College, Shimla, would be renamed Rajiv Gandhi Dental College, Shimla.

Focus on Modern Healthcare Infrastructure

CM Sukhu said the state government was undertaking several major reforms in the healthcare sector, with the impact of these initiatives already becoming visible. He highlighted the introduction of advanced medical technologies, including robotic surgery and 3-Tesla MRI facilities, in government healthcare institutions.

According to the Chief Minister, technologies that were once considered difficult to introduce in government hospitals are now becoming a reality in Himachal Pradesh.

He said the government was working to bring modern medical technology and advanced healthcare facilities to all medical colleges and district hospitals. The objective, he added, was to ensure that people could access quality and affordable treatment closer to their homes instead of travelling outside the state for specialised medical care.

Government to Consult Dental Professionals

Sukhu said the state government had already held detailed consultations with doctors across Himachal Pradesh and had taken several steps to improve the healthcare system.

He added that a similar consultation process would soon be held with dental professionals to identify measures for strengthening dental colleges and expanding access to quality dental healthcare across the state.

The Chief Minister also praised doctors trained in Shimla, saying they were serving with distinction across India and abroad. He said medical professionals from Himachal Pradesh were making a significant contribution to the healthcare sector by adopting modern technologies and advanced treatment methods.

Several dignitaries attended the conference, including MLA Suresh Kumar, Congress leader Pawan Thakur, Kailash Federation Chairman Baldev Thakur, Government Dental College, Shimla Principal Dr Yogesh Bhardwaj, AOMSI National President Dr Ashish Gupta, Himachal Chapter President Dr Rangeela Ram and other senior representatives.
