The police fraternity in Himachal Pradesh is deeply saddened by the sudden and untimely demise of Shri Ishwar Dev Bhandari, IPS (1982 batch), former Director General of Police, Himachal Pradesh. His passing is a great loss to the state and to all who had the privilege of working under his leadership.

Shri Bhandari was an officer of outstanding character, integrity, depth, and professionalism. Widely admired as a role model, he was known for his calm demeanor, balanced judgment, and ability to always take the right decision without harshness toward his subordinates. Colleagues remember him as a mentor, a guiding force in the department, and a true gentleman who left a lasting impression on everyone he led.

He also headed the Home Guards and Fire Department from February 2013 to April 2014, from where he retired. He is very fondly remembered by this department for his leadership, warmth, and approachability.

Beyond his professional excellence, Shri Bhandari was also a symbol of discipline and healthy living. Exceptionally fit, he was adept at advanced yoga asanas such as Sheershasan, a champion golfer, and a swimmer who could spend hours in the Sutlej River. His commitment to fitness and balance inspired many, and he was the one who introduced several colleagues to the game of golf.

After his retirement, he chose to spend much of his time in his native village on the banks of the Sutlej in Bilaspur district, remaining close to his roots.

His sudden departure has come as a shock to all who knew him. Those who worked with him recall not only his professional brilliance but also his humanity, humility, and the peace he carried within.

The Home Guards, the Fire Department, the civil defence representatives & SDRF join his many admirers in extending their deepest condolences to his family and friends.

All ranks, along with the Commandant General, gathered at a solemn ceremony at the Headquarters on 3.9.2025 to pay solemn tribute to the departed soul.

May his noble soul rest in eternal peace.

Om Shanti. 🙏
